[Farmkaset.org] Really? How bad is the drought in Texas...? As I have been previously living in Austin, Texas, for a while, I thought I would report about the Texas drought situation first hand. How bad is the drought situation here? It's critically bad, actually. Even the wildlife are generally facing starvation and death of thirst. I saw some wild pigs the opposite night (they're quite common throughout Texas), and they looked like these folks were barely surviving in a state of near-starvation.
My neighbors tell me to shoot the poor creatures out of large mercy, but I still don't possess the heart to pull the trigger over a wild pig. I do hear rifle shots every day or two, however, so somebody else is very literally bringing home the bacon while probably getting rid of the starvation burden about those wild pigs which have been somehow still alive. Overpopulation of wild pets, it turns out, sometimes has its own consequences with regards to animal suffering.
In talking to local ranchers, I've learned that the actual beef processing facilities are already backlogged for weeks mainly because that ranchers can't maintain their cattle fed, so they're having them slaughtered instead. This has the short-term consequence of thrusting beef costs into alarmingly low terrain, and it's also decimating your cattle population across Colorado front range. If this drought continues, many Texas cattle herds may be down to just twenty percent with their normal size. And even those staying cattle aren't looking well fed nowadays. Most ranchers can't even afford to bring in the hay, either, because fuel prices make hay transportation extremely pricey. You can't spend $100 per week feeding a cow which, right now, fetches less than $1, 000 at the sell. ยางพารา | อ้อย | ข้าว | มันสำปะหลัง
